John P. Burkhardt Sr.

John P. Burkhardt, Sr. passed away on September 1, 2011 at 6:40 PM at the age of 91 years. Son of the late Charles and Louise Hesler Burkhardt. Beloved husband of the late Ardath Luke Burkhardt. Brother to Joyce Burkhardt Cooper and his late siblings Mildred, Charles, Evelyn, Elvera, Joseph and Beverly. Father of John L. P. Burkhardt, Jr., Ron Noel Burkhardt, and the late Charlene Burkhardt Laven. Grandfather of John, III (Kathy), Joseph, Eric, the late Steven, Byron (Melissa), and Rory and Jenny Laven. Great grandfather to Jason, Joshua, Justin (Kadee), Jerad and Ravin. Great great grandfather to Jordan Steven Burkhardt. Father-in-Law to Fayanne Wise Burkhardt and Maria Medina Burkhardt. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was a resident of Chalmette, LA. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Burkhardt worked as a foreman on the New Orleans riverfront and retired at the age of 62 from ILA Union Local 3000.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 12:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
