Joe Kennedy

Ira Joe Kennedy passed away on May 29, 2023 at the age of 86. He was born on October 11, 1936 to R.M. Kennedy and Lavonne Little Kennedy. After receiving his G.E.D., he went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Army. He had a long career as a truck driver and was a member of Teamsters Local 270. In his free time, he loved riding motorcycles and enjoying the outdoors. Joe was an active member of Southshore Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R.M. and Lavonne Kennedy; sisters, Jeanette Weimer, Sue Dickerson, and Phyllis Kimball; brothers, Kenneth Ray Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy; and grandson, Coda Andrew Turner.

Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Dufour Kennedy; daughter, Marla Hunton (Elmo); sons, Joe A. Kennedy (Carol) and Jason Kennedy (Melissa); grandchildren, Brandon Turner (Ashlee), Kristen Merrill (Chad), Joe A. Kennedy, Jr., Melissa Bratcher, Christie Lukes, Mason Kennedy, and Noelle Kennedy, great grandchildren, Coda Turner, Claire Turner, Charlotte Turner, Kylie Merrill, Kendall Merrill, and Colton Merrill; and brother, Ricky Kennedy.

The family would like to give a special acknowledgement to Brother Jayme for officiating his services as well as their entire Southshore Baptist church family for the support they’ve received throughout the years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Baptist Service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 12 PM. Visitation will begin at 10 AM. Following the chapel service, he will be laid to rest in Metairie Cemetery.
