She attended St. Matthius and Ursuline high school, graduated summa cum laude from Ursuline college, and was the first Dean of Women at Loyola University.
Joan was an active parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena, serving as a cantor, choir member, and Eucharistic Minister along with participating with various other ministries in the parish, and she was a member of the Central Service Team for Magnificat. Her faith also drew her to Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitch, and spending time with her family and friends.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Salvador R. Lococo; son, Paul; and mother, Frances S. Barrios.
She is survived by her children, Cathy Richoux (Ronnie), Ted Lococo (Jill), Stephen Lococo (Kathy), Mary Murphy (Troy), and Margaret Long (Dr. Wm. Jeffrey); grandchildren, Trey Richoux (Marie), Ali Spansel (Sean), Nick Lococo, Ceci Lococo, Emily Lococo, Clay Lococo, Carter Murphy, Dr. Liam Long, and Max Long; and great-grandchildren, William, Gavin, and Ryan Spansel.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff on the Skilled Nursing unit at Christwood in Covington, as well as St. Joseph Hospice.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation and funeral mass on Monday, April 29, 2024 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd. Metairie, LA 70005. This visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. until mass at noon. The interment will follow at Metairie Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124.
