Joan Sullivan Coleman passed away on September 14, 2017. She was born on May 20, 1935. A native of Revere, MA, Joan resided in the New Orleans area for the last 46 years. Before retiring, she served as a nursing home administrator at Maison Hospitaliere, and St. Margaret’s Daughters’ in New Orleans and Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Opelousas, LA. She was active in the Irish community as a member of New Orleans Friends of Ireland, an organization that was instrumental in bringing Irish Step dancing to New Orleans. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett M. Coleman; her parents, John A Sullivan and Edna McCarthy Sullivan; her sister, Florence DiBiase; her brother, Donald Sullivan and her son-in-law Timothy Coffey. She is survived by her children, John Coleman (Kathleen), Nancy Coffey, Patricia Coleman (Randy Roussell), Joyce Rau (Phil) and Jennifer Babin (Corey); her grandchildren, David Coleman, Philip and Benjamin Rau, Miles, William, and Paige Coleman, Emily Roussell and Aiden Babin. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 411 North Rampart St, New Orleans, on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 10 am. A visitation will be held from 9 am until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peristyle Residences–Lakeview House, Second Harvest Food Bank and the Alzheimer’s Association.
