She grew up in the Depression, a child of the Greatest Generation. Jean was very patriotic, supported the USO during WWII, and was Miss USO of 1944. The raucous Aucoin kids were funny and LOVED to joke. Lovingly called “Jeano,” “PeeWee” and “Speedy” by family members, Jean kept her sense of humor throughout her life, entertaining us and everyone around.
After graduating from high school at age 15, Jean went to Baton Rouge Business College. As an executive secretary, she moved to New Orleans to work for the State of Louisiana.
Joe Mooney, her future husband, was told by his friends that there was a very cute Cajun girl working at that office. On the pretense of needing a job, Joe went there to apply. When he came home, he told his mother “Today I met the woman I’m going to marry.” After a short courtship, they married on October 27, 1947.
Although she was a petite woman Jean was bursting with Cajun spice, calling us all “cher” and the babies “ti’choux.” Mom loved music and sang show tunes until the last day of her life. After losing her house to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she moved to Florida, where she resided until her death.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Patrick, and her siblings, Jean is survived by four of her five children: Bridget Phillips, (Dr Wayne) of Clearwater, FL, Terry Kreschel, (Franz) of Kandern Germany, Erin Mooney (Stanis Kodman) of Atlanta and Dr Timothy Mooney (Ann) of Hammond, LA. Jean is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Kevin Phillips (Lana), Colleen Isley (Nate), Michael Phillips (Megan) and Kerry Reller (Nate); Meredith Charrie, Lisa Dieter, Rachel Andersen and Kris Andersen, T.J. Mooney II (Lisa Jo) and 26 great grandchildren: Grace, Jason, Michaela, Benjamin, Jaden, Carmen, Gabriel, Jonathan, Sirena, Kimi, Amaya, Akira, Carmen, Charlotte, Patrick, Caiman, Sengin, Talin, Cecelia, George, Ellie Jean, Lily, Xavi, Hobie, Vivian & Dallas.
