Ione Cancienne Muhs age 96, died Thursday, December 23, 2021, in Katy, Texas, where she had been living since 2009. Beloved wife of the late Raymond J. Muhs for 67 years. She was just three weeks away from her 97th birthday. Born in Donner, LA to the late Felix Cancienne and Felicie Babin Cancienne, Ione lived most of her life in Metairie. She and Raymond were parishioners of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church for over 50 years. Ione was preceded in death by her brothers Alden, Warren, and Joseph Cancienne, as well as her sister Ethel Cancienne Buckley.
Ione was, like her mother, a wonderful cook who could make ordinary weeknight meals seem like gourmet fare. Her children always remember coming home from school to the delicious and comforting aromas of her suppers in the midst of preparation. Also like her mother, she was a superb seamstress who lovingly made Christmas, Easter, and everyday outfits for her children, always making sure those inside seams were properly finished. She loved to garden, but most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren and expressed her love for them over the years in many ways that will never be forgotten. She was never too busy to give of herself. She was certainly a beautiful lady, inside and out, and a wonderful mother.
Ione is survived by her four children, Lyn Muhs Songy, Donna Muhs Kunz (Ted), Daniel Raymond Muhs (Lynn), and Kathie Muhs LeBoeuf (Rebel); her sister, Lou Cancienne LoCascio; her grandchildren, Jeanne Marie LeBoeuf, Sarah LeBoeuf Breazzano (Steven), Aaron Daniel Kunz (Katie), Danielle Kunz Heckman (David), and Amelia Lynn Muhs; and her great grandchildren, Ethan and Elliot Breazzano.
The family would like to give special thanks to A*MED Community Hospice and to Barbara Parker for their tender, caring support of Ione in her last weeks. Thanks also to the awesome Life Guidance staff at Atria Cinco Ranch (Katy, TX) who cared for Mom for the past 7 years.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 AM.
