As a child, her curly blond hair and dimples had her mistaken for Shirley Temple. She was a quiet little girl, but as a teenager she became popular at the CYO dances with her skill on the dance floor. As an adult, Helen was loved by many, especially her family.
Time with Aunt Helen, or just Mom to us, was a highlight of many a visit to the Regan household. She hosted Santa's visit at Christmas Eve parties through the 80's and 90's. Before that, she co-hosted years of holiday parties at her dear older sister Flo's home on Robert St. in New Orleans. These parties were known by many as a place for the entire Kreller family to eat, drink, share presents and, most of all, share each other's company. Her generous hospitality extended beyond just the holiday parties, with her beautiful smile welcoming guests from near and far throughout the year.
The long trips she took with husband John (Mookie) after the nest was empty were perhaps a highlight. They were very proud to have started humbly in the Irish Channel and travel to far parts of the globe. Mookie and Helen built a few houses together, and Helen really enjoyed designing those houses. She was passionate about design and made her vision come to life in those homes.
After John passed away too early in life, Helen moved in with her daughter, Laura, and dedicated her time to helping with her grandsons, especially her special needs grandson, David. David took to calling his grandmother Dear, and everyone else followed suit. She was known all around family's circles as "Dear" and she was in fact, dear to all of us.
Helen is survived by her children: Laura Regan Landry (Daryl James Landry), John Malcolm Regan, Jr. (Jennifer Wright), and Thomas Joseph Regan; her devoted nephew: Raymond Joseph Regan, Jr. (Susan Regan); grandchildren: Dennis Joseph Landry, Steven Gerard Landry, PhD (Stephanie Roberts Landry), David Thomas Landry; great-grandchildren, Adelaide Acadia Landry and Rosalie Magnolia Landry.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband: John Malcom Regan, Sr.; parents: Matthew Jacob Kreller, Sr. and Laura Anne Brennan Kreller; siblings: Florence K. Holland ("Flo"), Eva Kreller, Laura Rita K. Arthurs ("Laurita"), Margaret K. Vanderbrook ("Marbie"), Matthew Jacob Kreller, Jr., James Harvey Kreller, and John Henry Kreller.
The family would like to give special thanks to the amazing team at Heritage Manor's Memory Unit in Baton Rouge, where Helen's smile shown through her illness and made all who saw it happy.
