Guy taught my son Kevin(who passed in Feb. 1996). He was a great teacher and coworker.  My prayers for your peace. God bless you. 

My heart goes out to Janice and Guy's family. I had the pleasure of spending many days in the great outdoors with Guy and working with him in the 1980s at Delta Wilderness Outfitters. I was a teenager, enthralled with the outdoors (a passion that stays with me to this day). Guy was 12 years my senior, but included me in his adventures and joined me on my climbing and kayaking trips. He never said a bad word about anyone and loved teaching. I'm heartbroken by the news. I haven't seen him years but think about him often. Rest in Peace, dear friend.

Hi I just found out I I knew Mr. Charleville From Livingston middle school. He never taught me, but his wife was my speech teacher. He was a really good guy, always full of life. I actually saw him a few years ago. I work at Brother Martin high school. I saw him for a reunion and he was so proud to tell everyone that he knew me when I was a little kid, only in the six grade. Sorry for the loss that was a really good man. 

Guy, I didn’t get to say,  ‘Goodbye .’ (I always thought I would pre-decease you.) I only heard of your passing yesterday. Lately I have been pre-occupied with recovering from cancer and Barbara was in Ohio with her mother for several weeks. Now let me say, ‘‘Goodbye’ to you.’

First let me reminisce with you. We first met through New Orleans Public Schools (NOPS) in the 1990s.  You were a teacher at Livingston Middle School and I was on sabbatical. I was enrolled in a special education class and you allowed me to visit and observe your class. You and your students warmly welcomed me.  The students were thought to be “bad boys;” they treated me with dignity and respect and courtesy and friendliness.  I was impressed with your calm and gentle control.  Students were focused on learning and on-task.  They were compliant and relaxed.  You set the positive tone.  Your love of teaching and your warm regards for the boys was evident - even palpable.  

You were a role model; you demonstrated to the boys that a white man could be a man of good will and sympathetic and empathetic.  You displayed that a strong man could be affectionate and loving.  You created environments where boys could feel safe and enjoy trust.  You created safe places wherever you went.  You showed boys and young men that it was healthy to cry and not stifle emotions.  You were an effective healer and an inspiring and motivational teacher.  You practiced “Do no harm” and modeled compassion, inclusion, and tolerance.    

Guy, I hope we will meet again in a place that is full of joy and love and light.   Until that time, my friend.

Mr. Guy taught our son at Bethune Elementary School. We were so shocked and heartbroken to find out that Mr. Guy was in a car accident and that he passed away.  We found out the afternoon of the accident on Friday, December 21st looking at the news on our telephone.
Mr. Guy was a very kind man and always encouraged my son and us as parents. I knew he really loved my son and we all loved him. He  genuinely had a special gift with children and always encouraged them and their parents.
My son graduated from high school in May. We would run into Mr. Guy from time to time and he would talk with us and ask about our son.  We still have his phone number and knew we could call him for advice or whatever we needed to discuss with him. He was a beautiful blessing to my son and our entire family.
Mrs. Charleville, you and your family members are in our prayers. May you find comfort in Jesus Christ and the memories you have together.

I had worked with Guy's sister-in-law Carol at Chalmette Middle where I was a SPED teacher for 7 years pre-Katrina.  When I ended up at Lusher teaching SPED in 2006, I met Janice and through small talk, learned Carol was her sister.  My boss Shawn, sent me to the dept. chair meeting for OPSB in her place, and Janice said her husband Guy would be there.  Weirdly, I knew immediately who he was and we ended up sitting together and goofing off at all those meetings, and he always greeted me with, "Hey Chalmette!".  He was just one of those people who radiate joy.  And I'm going to miss him.  

I was so sadden to hear about Guy.  He was such a wonderful person.  He had an undeniable love for people.  The care and concern he showed to the students were so genuine.  This world, friends, students and co-workers will definitely miss him.

Guy was the most dedicated educator that I’ve ever met. Working with Guy was the best professional development a teacher could get. I learned so much from him. He built loving educational communities wherever he taught. I’m so glad the students of Orleans Parish had a Mr Guy in their lives.

I remember when Mr Guy did everything for me throughout elementary and middle school.  The best teacher to me and I just didn’t see him as a teacher, i seen him as family to me❤️. i am very thankful for everything he did for me. He was and still is THE BEST TEACHER i ever had. i was planning on visiting him soon but i didn’t get the chance to do it😢 Mr Guy left a print on me❤️ Mr Guy helped me through those frustrating times and all around. Mr. Guy only met my daughter one year yet he was positive about her and always spoke positive things. My daughter and I are shocked and saddened upon hearing of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during these hard times! He truly was a wonderfully person! 

I was so saddened to get the news of Guy's passing.  He was a wonderful friend of T.R.E.E.  We met when he first came to our Sunship Earth program with students from Eisenhower and he followed us through the other schools where he taught.  Always positive, devoted to the students he came with, and such enthusiasm!!!!  He was a true teacher - a guide that let students be themselves at the same time helping them grow into their best selves with gentleness.  A love of the outdoors radiated from him at every moment and washed over all those around him.  

He will be greatly missed.  

I only met Mr. Guy this school year, and in the short time I knew him he made a huge impact on myself and my children. He was the first person we saw in carpool, always had a conversation with me about my daughter. Reassuring me of how great she did one day, or something she created or said. He was the most genuine person I have met in a long time. His ability and love for helping kids was inspiring. He connected with the kids he taught, and had the ability to know what they needed when they didn’t even know for themselves. He saw something special in my daughter. He took the time and initiative to get her tested for gifted and talented. Had it not been for him, she might have never tested in. He saw that in her and believed in her. Guy was one of a kind and will be missed deeply. My prayers are with Mr. Guy’s wife (his love) and family. 

Guy, you told me that you were honored that David and I chose you as Tim's godfather because you're not family. You're more like family, and certainly a brother to David, than many people ever experience. It's been MY honor to call you my dear friend for almost 50 years. Thanks to all of your family for welcoming us into your home. The memories that I have of holiday eves at 113 Winthrop Place are enduring and treasured. Thanks for being a most reliable, funny, kind, interesting and compassionate human being. Nature lost one of her most appreciative travelers. You and Janice complemented each other perfectly. Life will be very different (and difficult) but we'll try to help and comfort her, Ellen and Melanie. Rest in peaceful sleep in heaven, my friend, as Ms. Tee and Mr. Billy welcome you. Please give hugs and kisses to them for us because we miss them, too. Our hearts hurt!

Guy was a phenomenal man. He was always happy and upbeat. His joy was infectious. His presence always made you joyful too. He was completely devoted to his students, and always gave updates on those that had moved on to high school. Guy always pushed his students to do their very best. We were so lucky to have him in our lives. He will be missed. 


It was cool having you as a friend.i remember meeting you a while back in Mid City amd you were as surprised as i was.and it was awesome meeting you and you will be missed.it wasn't easy during my two years in Livingston but you made it easy for me.

How can I possibly share A (singular) memory of Guy? My memories of him span all the years of my life. He was like an uncle or second dad to me as a child and a cherished friend as an adult. His influence in our family was so strong that we are going to have to try to carve out a "new normal" without him. But we're going to figure out how to do that. Because we have to. It's what he would want. 

It isn’t often that one's untimely passing has an affect on you and you never met or spoke to that person. I find myself in that very situation with Guy’s passing. My wife, Lettie Rillieux worked with Guy at the Cypress Academy.  Lettie was on the computer when she let out an OH NO, that reeked of tragedy! She informed me of a workmate's death. I knew Guy as the fella that had the luxury of being so close to work he walked.  Lettie always spoke fondly of Guy. He was the kind that nobody ever spoke badly about. A genuine GOOD GUY! My thoughts have been on his wife ever since.  May the Most High somehow comfort her as she endures the loss of her friend, lover and life partner.  There are no words to express my feelings.

I know Guy through my sorority big sis Janice.  He was definitely her guy!  Guy never met a stranger, he had no enemies, and always saw the good in all things.  He was a gentle soul who appreciated beauty - in relationships, beginning with Janice of course, in nature, and in people.  Janice and I lost touch for a few years - due to work and family obligations, but reconnected recently.  I attended her 60th birthday party - where I saw Guy love on "his bride" and extend the warmest hospitality to all!  I then shared a cocktail with them at their most recent Martini Madness party - and as I was leaving he said to me with a laugh, "You see, we invite all kinds of different people - it's like a gumbo!"  It was easy to see that he was the love of Janice's life.  He was always happy, and an absolute pleasure to be around.  I am so glad that I got the opportunity to meet this truly wonderful human being.  I am sure he has big wings, as he has certainly earned them!  Janice, I know that the testimonies in these messages are not news to you, and cannot begin to quantify your loss, but they are validation of what a truly beautiful man Guy was.  Love, - Joy

We became good friends and loved his always positive and happy disposition- sending our love and praying that God will comfort you during this difficult time .

My friend, my long-ago teacher and my brother I never had. You will be missed and I know you will always be with us. I can still hear when you would call my name, Reynold Lloyd. lol, I can still hear the words. And I will always remember our last talk we had at Nanny's birthday party and what you told me and yes I took it to heart my friend, Thanks for that talk we had. You were always the one I could talk to and most of all I am Blessed to have known you the 55 years of my life. I know the next time I go camping, or for a walk in the woods I will hear your voice and feel you there. I will miss you, Brother, RIP my Friend. 

Praying that the family finds the strength to endure.  Mr. Guy meant so much, to so many people.  He was more than a teacher to my son.  He always went beyond his title.  He gave my son life lessons; that will assist him beyond school.  He talked me through many I. E.P.’s; however it didn’t stop there.  I was supposed to call you on 12/21; to let you know of Monzell’s accomplishments.  I know you are proud of him.  You’ve made it to that special place that we talked about for “Special People”.

Guy was one of my favorite colleagues. His dedication and genuine care for all students is unsurpassed.  I fondly remember our years of working together and how well we worked as a team.  Not only was he a great educator but he was an awesome person. I always enjoyed talking and laughing with him.  And everyone knew how much he loved camping and his wife, Janice.  Guy will be truly missed. 

All of our lives changed forever on December 21, 2018. That is when God called Guy home. He will always be forever in our hearts. He was so attentive to me with my injured ankle. Janice and Guy picked me from home and brought me to Melanie's and Dave's. When I looked back I had no idea that would be the last time I would see my sweet brother. Guy, you are in heaven, and we have a special angel. I know you are in the arms of Jesus, our Lord I know you were welcomed into the gates of heaven by Mama, Daddy, Maw Maw and Paw Paw.  My brother in law Guy always had that special quality you have as an instantly likeable person.  Even before Melanie and I were married Guy was the one who made sure I got home safe and sound  the night of my bachelor party.  He was a true Christ follower and over the years we had many conversations about being a Christian and he exhibited it in the way he treated others.  My pastor from my church was at my 60th birthday party 5 days before Guy left us and he told me that Guy kept making sure he was welcome by bringing him a glass of wine, food etc.  That's how Guy was all the time.  We will all miss him from this point moving forward from family gatherings to just the phone calls.  We know we will see you again!

Although my wife and I have met Guy only a few times through my brother, Greg, we felt like we’d known him for years.  He was very kind and down to earth; a person you were glad to know.  We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to you, Janice, and your family.  

I will fondly remember the times we spent as teachers at Livingston in the 1980s. He was a compassionate, caring educator and a role model to all who cared about children. Along with Myra Settoon, we pray that he be a blessed memory to all who knew him.

Guy attended Manresa House of Retreats annually with Retreat Group 21 for many years. He loved his time there. He usually brought his father in law Earl Forstall to retreat. He was always willing to volunteer in any way to help. Guy will be remembered in our prayers at our 2019 retreat.
Eternal Rest grant unto him O Lord, and let the Perpetual Light shine upon him.

There are no words to express the sadness in our hearts right now. Mr. Guy was so much more than an educator. My son, Lee, thought of Mr. Guy as a second dad. The world lost an amazing human; but heaven gained an incredible angel!

I will always remember your positivity and endearing smile. I enjoyed working with you at Livingston Middle and most definitely enjoyed your dip you brought to all of the school functions. You were truly a beautiful soul. 

Without question Guy was the nicest person that I have ever met.  I had some of my greatest outdoor moments with he and Janice.  There was no one more generous and kind and i will always cherish the memories.

My daughter and I saw Guy several months ago at Loews. We hugged and greeted each other as we had not seen each other in years.He told us of the summer trip he and Janice had planned.  I wished them a happy vacation and sent my love to Janice who I also had not seen since our Pre -Katrina speech therapist days.  He was a wonderful husband and a dedicated instructor who will be missed by the many lives he touched. 🙏🏼

My memory of Guy is running/walking the levee at Manresa Retreat House.  Wonderful man.  Faithful.  I know where he is now.  Eternal rest grant unto him O, Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him.
