Gustave Paul Laroque Turgeau (“Gus”) entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the age of 85. A native New Orleanian, he was a 1957 graduate of Warren Easton High School. After graduating high school, he entered the police academy and became a police officer with the New Orleans Police Department, serving the NOPD until his retirement in 1993. He served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1962-64.
He was preceded in death by his beloved and cherished wife of 61 years, Susan McKneely Turgeau; parents, Theresa Bourgeois Turgeau and Harry P. Turgeau, Sr.; brother, Harry P. Turgeau, Jr.; and sister, Martha Turgeau Wilcox.
Gus is survived by his daughter, Pamela Turgeau Starns (Rémy); son, Dr. Michael Paul Turgeau (Brenda); grandchildren, Gabrielle Carroll (Layne), Madeline Kyzar (Josh), Milan Hebert (Mason), Alexander Turgeau, Camron Viola, and Grant Turgeau; great grandchildren, Isla Hebert, Harrison Carroll, and Paisley Kyzar; brothers, Larry Turgeau (Georgia), Darryl Turgeau (Kathy); and sister, Judy Turgeau Bothman (John).
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 1 PM. Visitation will begin at 11 AM. After Mass, Gus will be laid to rest in Lake Lawn Park.
