Guillermina Tome Castillo passed away surrounded by her family and friends on Sunday, February 21, 2016 in her 96 year of life. She was born in Villanueva, Honduras on September 24, 1919 to her beloved parents Estanislao Tome and Dolores Tome Quillonez. She married Lorenzo Castillo from La Ceiba Honduras with whom she had three children, Lorenzo, Griselda and Roberto Castillo. Her family and friends lovingly called her "Mama Mina or Tia Mina". Mama Mina was an exceptional woman in every aspect of her life. She was a survivor, widowed at a very young age with young children at a time (1940's) when women did not work outside the home. She did not dwell on her misfortune, but scraped money together to establish a small grocery store and boarding house and raised her children. In the early 1960's she moved to New Orleans and established another boarding house. Mama Mina was a woman of God. Her unwavering faith pulled her through many ups and downs throughout her life. After God, she loved her family deeply. Later in life, she took great pleasure in helping raise her grandchildren and many of the children of her nieces and nephews, moving to New York, California, Seattle, Miami or wherever she was needed. She had a great sense of humor. It was never boring to be around her for she made everyone laugh. She had a positive attitude and got up every morning to sing praises to her Lord. She gave advise to her younger generations whether asked for or not. Her favorite pastime was to spend time with her family and friends. Mama Mina was loved by so many throughout her life. She positively influenced more people than she will ever know. Mama Mina is survived by a daughter, Griselda Castillo of Seattle, Washington, two sisters, Dolores (Lolita) Tome Gibson and Carmen Tome Daly, many grandsons, granddaughters and great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and great grand nieces and nephews and many other relatives.
