Born February 7, 1926, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Gloria graduated from Eleanor McMain High School for Girls where she was a contributing reporter for the school’s quarterly publication, which fostered her love of writing and kindled her desire to author short stories. In her early years, she attended Napolean United Methodist Church and later was a long-time parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church in Terrytown. In addition to enjoying old movies and dabbling in piano playing, Gloria was an avid reader and loved to do crossword puzzles, which kept her mind sharp throughout her long and wonderful life.
She worked as a Customer Service Representative for Bell South Telephone Company for 25 years. Through Bell South, she was a member of the AT&T Pioneers of America and a long-time participant in a luncheon group of retired employees (Ex-Phone Emps) that met monthly.
Gloria is survived by her loving children, Joseph C. Caldarera, Jr., Douglas P. Caldarera (Karla) and Michael A. Caldarera (Laura – deceased); grandchildren, Nickolas W. Caldarera, Kristin C. Louvier (Jeff), Andrew J. Caldarera, Giana M. Caldarera, Michelle N. Remmers and Kristen N. Ruiz (Ryan); great grandchildren, Isabella, Marissa, Scarlett, Kevin, Roman and Solomon; nieces Gail A. Johnson, Karen A. Al-Thawwad, Lauren A. Wear, Scheryl D. Daenan, and nephew Eddie Domm.
Gloria was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Joseph C. Caldarera, her parents, Angelo J. Albano and Josephine K. Albano, her brother, Dominic A. Albano (Selita - deceased), sister-in-law Virginia Caldarera Domm (Edward - deceased), and niece Phyllis D. Delavalle.
Gloria was a dedicated and devoted wife and mother to Joseph and her three sons, who will miss her greatly but will always cherish the lasting impact she had on their lives and many others. Always encouraging and supportive with an ever-present smile on her face, she was beloved by so many beyond her family. Gloria truly lived her life as the embodiment of the fruits of the Holy Spirit by exhibiting love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.
A life of 98 years is a well-lived life and the Caldarera family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to several people who were instrumental in helping Gloria achieve this remarkable milestone. Special thanks to Marta Zepeda for her 7-1/2 years of loving and compassionate care, Dr. Cory Cashman and his staff, especially nurse Terry O’Quinn, and Drs. Russell and Damon DiMarco and their caring and loving staff.
