Glenda was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 16, 1949. She is survived by her wife, Wendy Granoien, and her 4 children, Byron Twyman, Jennifer Twyman Perkins, Annie Loc, and Jeimy Galicia Lopez, as well as her stepson Alex Granoien. Glenda (Gigi) had 5 grandchildren: Elise Perkins, Owen Perkins, Margaret Twyman, Quinn Granoien and Shaela Granoien. She is also survived by her brother George and sister Judy.
Glenda’s life started out much like many girls born in New Orleans in 1949. She went to Catholic School all the way through high school where she was a star on the basketball team. She attended college, and after graduation she got married and had 2 children within 3 years. That was the last traditional thing she did.
Glenda threw off the cape of conventionality and put on her Wonder Woman cape. She moved with her children to Berkeley, California, got a job and raised her children as a single mother. She lived in Portland, Oregon for 6 years and it was there that she would meet her partner and wife Wendy. Together they moved back to California in 1998 and decided to grow their family by adding Annie and Jeimy. Family was of the utmost importance to Glenda and having them altogether was the highpoint of any given year. She was passionate about politics, human rights, the women’s movement, equality for all, sports, and travelling the world. Glenda was most passionate about gardening and made instant connections with anyone that appreciated plants and flowers.
Glenda was a Mother, a Wife, a Sister, an Aunt, a Cousin, a Friend and most importantly a Grandmother (Gigi). She will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
