Gladys was the beloved wife for 67 years of Raymond Rideau; loving mother of Pamela Rideau Mathews (Roy), Stephanie Rideau Mares (Matt), and Michael Rideau (Julie); grandmother of Lauren Mathews Holstein (Patrick), Edwin Mathews, Jr. (Nia), Madalyn Mares Gallo (Darryl, Jr.), William Rideau, Brent Rideau, Britt Rideau, Amelia Mares, and Ian Mares; and great grandmother of Mason Holstein, Riley Holstein, Penelope Mathews, and Cecilia Mathews. She is also survived by James and Judy Bourgeois and family, Douglas and Audra Degan and family, and Maria Rideau, who she considered all her family by choice. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Leona Martin Stechmann.
Gladys was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 7, 1936, and was a graduate of the Academy of the Holy Angels, class of 1954. She was a founding member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Arabi, Louisiana and a parishioner of St. Anselm Church in Madisonville, Louisiana. Her joy in life was raising her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family, and will be deeply missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, April 17, 2023 at 1:00PM. The visitation will begin at 11:00AM. The interment will follow the chapel service at All Saints Mausoleum (in Metairie Cemetery).
