Deacon Gilbert W. Smith, Jr., passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014. He was 80 years old. Beloved husband of almost 60 years of the late JoAnn Ropollo Smith. Beloved son of the late Gilbert W. Smith, Sr. and the late Katie Smith. Loving father of Gilbert J. Smith, Sr. (Cathy Mang Smith), Gregory J. Smith, Gary J. Smith (Cathy Breaux Smith), and Glenn J. Smith. Beloved brother of Gilda Smith Werner and the late Sherry Smith Peterman. He is survived by ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by loving brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Ann Catholic Church, 4940 Meadowdale Street in Metairie, LA, 70006 on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations to Community of Deacons preferred.
