

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Edward and Elizabeth Gennusa Gerarve and younger brother, Alvin John.
He is survived by his best friend, wife of 31 years, Karen Pelletier Gerarve; his children, Gerard F. Gerarve, Jr. (Robin), Rebecca Gerarve Caillouet (Jerry), Stephanie Gerarve, their mother, Ann Alcina Gerarve, Christopher M. Gerarve (Michele); and his grandchildren Joseph, Gabrielle, Gerard III, Alexis and Giada. He was also looking forward to the arrival of his third grandson in July. He is also survived by his brothers, Frank E. Gerarve, Jr. and Dennis M. Gerarve; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family who already miss him dearly.
Born in New Orleans on August 2, 1944, Gerard attended St. Stephen Catholic School and was a boarding student at Holy Cross School in the ninth ward where he graduated in 1962. He was a resident of Harahan, LA for the past 25 years.
Gerard worked for REA Express Inc. for 7 years before transitioning to Southern Pacific Railroad until retirement in 2005. He loved retirement, everything LSU, Mardi Gras and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
When you met him, you instantly felt loved. He greeted you with a smile, a hug and one of his famous jokes. He never met a stranger, and everyone was family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, February 15, 2021 beginning at 12:00pm at St. Rita Catholic Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy., Harahan, LA, with a funeral mass to follow at 1:00pm. Interment will be private. Family asks you to consider a donation in Gerard’s name to the Holy Cross School, 5500 Paris Ave., New Orleans, LA 70122.
