George C. Gaudin, native of Louisiana, departed this life on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at the age of 69. He was born in New Orleans on January 26, 1949, to Dorothy May and George Francis Gaudin. Growing up in Lakeview he attended St. Dominic, Warren Easton High School, Murphy High School (in Alabama), and Delgado Community College. As a child, George had a great passion for the sport of baseball and thrived as playing catcher. As he grew, everyone knew he enjoyed speedboats, motorcycles, classic cars, hot rods and airboats. He loved anything fast and adventurous.
In 1969, he met the love of his life and his rock, Gaynell (Williams) Gaudin, on a blind date. After love at first sight, they said "I Do", on November 13, 1971, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. George was a very supportive and loving husband who grew more supportive throughout their marriage. Their forever bond strengthened over time as their love increased more and more up until the very last moment and this bond can never be broken.
George was employed with National Life Insurance and Allstate Insurance Companies for 39 years and prided himself in his work. He was always known for his organized and detailed work ethic and constant hustle. George always went above and beyond for his clientele. Through his career, he was blessed to have traveled the world and lived life to its fullest. This provided him great satisfaction to be an exceptional provider for his family, especially his dear wife and beloved two children. In 1978, on September 3, George and Gaynell welcomed their first daughter, Wendy Monique Gaudin Gremillion and then on March 24, 1983, they welcomed their son, Chad Edward Gaudin. George was a devoted, caring, and loving father who was deeply proud of his two successful and tenacious children.
In being genuinely overjoyed with his children's successes, he constantly bragged about their accomplishments and prosperity. Wendy graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a Bachelor Degree in Arts and later graduated from Loyola University New Orleans, College of Law, earning her Juris Doctor (JD) Degree. Chad shared George's talent and passion for baseball. He was selected into the Major League Baseball Draft after graduating from high school and is still currently playing professional baseball. Watching Chad play and wearing his son's 2009 New York Yankees World Series ring gave him great gratification.
Not only did he love his work, his "toys," and his family, he was a proud member of the Krewe of Bacchus as a Riding Lieutenant, and Krewe of Centurions. Over the years, he had a deep allegiance for being a part of Mardi Gras festivities and the city he called "home". Some may have even jokingly called his love for Mardi Gras an obsession...
George's grandchildren, Adelyn Sadie Gremillion (9), Gunnar Gator Gaudin (6), Braxton Cale Gremillion (6), Gannon Gator Gaudin (almost 2), held the key to his heart. "Grampy" was a silly, funny, loveable, giant teddy bear/ gorilla. Their best friend will always be remembered and never forgotten.
Sadly, George fell ill with a debilitating, unbearable, and undiagnosable physical pain over the last couple of years. The illness caused him to rapidly deteriorate and he could not live with the pain anymore. Unfortunately, he choose to take his own life, as he was unable to tolerate the physical pain anymore. With deep grief, we ask that you open your heart and have compassion without judgment and respectfully understand his choice.
George will always be remembered in our hearts and precious memories. Our family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for all of the love, support, sympathy, comforting words, and prayers that have been received during this tragic time in our lives. Your support has been a godsend and source of strength for our entire family. May God bless each and every one of you for eternity.
