Fred C. Buras passed away peacefully at his home on February 28, 2022, in the arms of his husband of 34 years, Tom Lonergan. Fred, a life-long resident of his beloved New Orleans, died one day after his 66th birthday, surrounded by family and friends. Fred was an ardent people person who +touched many lives. His many talents were put to great use in his 35 years in real estate. Fred was known for his professionalism, courtesy, and ability to simplify and solve even the most complex problems; he received numerous awards for top productivity from the beginning of his career up through his death. Fred was known for his great kindness and ability to give others the courage and support to grow, most evident in his support of new real estate agents with whom he interacted, generously mentoring them, even if they worked for other companies. Given Fred’s natural charm and humor, it is not surprising that many of his clients became extended family. An avid entertainer and excellent cook, one of Fred’s favorite sayings was “Anything worth doing is worth overdoing,” and he lived that sentiment fully. Fred’s many friends can attest to his zest for life, endless supply of humor, and thoughtful advice and support. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Fred is survived by his husband, Tom Lonergan, several cousins including Cherry Bordelon (James); his three nieces, Collette Biedenkopf (Tim), Jamie Grimley (Patrick), Katie Laughlin (Phillip), and numerous close friends. A private memorial service will be held later this Spring. The family invites you to share fond memories and condolences online at www.lakelawnmetairie.com.
