He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years - Maxey Houston, his daughter - Tara Schultz Carvin (Glenn), and his grandson - Ryan Joseph Carvin and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents - Robert P. Schultz and Ruth L. Schultz and his many siblings.
F.J. attended Henry W. Allen Grammar School, Old Metairie High where he was captain of the football team, LSU (1955 -59), and then served 6 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. After his service, he worked as a temporary math teacher where he met his lovely wife Maxey. He had a very successful career in sales and finance, having worked with Olivetti Underwood Corp. (agency manager), E.F. Hutton (asst. manager), Paine Webber (manager), and Citigroup Inc. until his retirement in 2007. F.J. was very active in civic organizations, having served as President of the Algiers Kiwanis Club, President of the New Orleans Parkway and Parks Commission, President of Save Our Cemeteries, and a member of the New Orleans Rotary Club, the Bienville Club and the Pass Christian Yacht Club.
F.J. was known by those who knew him best as easygoing, upbeat and one of the kindest people around. He enjoyed traveling all over the world with Maxey and loved spending time with his family at his summer home on Bay St. Louis in Pass Christian, MS where he fished, sailed, drove his boat and swam in the Gulf and Bay waters for more than 50 years. Later in life, F.J. enjoyed many mornings working out at the gym and meeting his friends for coffee.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service to be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 on Monday, March 21, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. A visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
