Ernest Jacques III

JACQUES Father Ernest J. “E.J.” Jacques, S. J. passed from this life on October 8, 2014 at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center in New Orleans. He was 80 years of age, had been a Jesuit for 61 years and a priest for 48. On October 13 there will be a visitation at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center beginning at 10:00 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00. E. J. was born on September 8, 1934 in New Orleans, graduated from St. Aloysius in 1952. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1953. He earned an A. B. and an M. A. from Spring Hill College and an S.T.L. from St. Mary’s College in Kansas. He was ordained a priest in 1966. He taught in four Jesuit high schools, at Spring Hill College, and the Catholic Student Center in Monroe, LA. He worked in pastoral ministry at St. John Berchman’s Cathedral in Shreveport, Immaculate Conception Church in New Orleans and St. Joseph’s Church in Mobile. A stroke forced him to retire to Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center in 2009. He is survived by his brother, Rene C. Jacques and nieces, Alicia Schwarzenbach, Janine Koenig and Andre Jacques.
