Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Bernard L. Hill, Jr.; parents, Michael Logan Donovan and Genevieve Losh Donovan; brother, Michael Logan Donovan, Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Giammolva Hill.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Lee Hill Wilton (T. Heard); two sons, Douglas Owen Hill and Matthew Donovan Hill (Lynne); six grandchildren, Thomas H. Wilton, Jr., Andrew Bernard Wilton, William Owen Wilton, Maegan Hill Whittle, Ethan Hill, and Tyler Owen Hill; and four great grandchildren, Bella Whittle, Madison Maurin Wilton, Meredith Mae Wilton, and Ripley Gail Wilton. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for over 40 years and was currently a member of Munholland United Methodist Church. She was a member of the New Orleans Geological Auxiliary and the National Republican Party. She was nominated for the prestigious American Legion Award in 1943 in Houston, Texas. In 1947, she graduated from St. Luke’s Episcopal Nursing School, and had a successful career as a registered nurse until becoming a full time homemaker. With her best friend and loving husband, Bernard, she attended the New Orleans Opera for 20 years and the Rivertown Repertory Theatre.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 12:00PM with Rev. Jonathan Beck officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will follow the chapel service at All Saints Mausoleum (in Metairie Cemetery).
