Dennis Michael Patrick Donegan, a native of New Orleans, passed peacefully in his sleep late Monday, December 29th. Born December 2, 1929, he recently celebrated his 85th birthday. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 64 years, Dorothy Barilleaux Donegan. He is the father of Dennis Donegan (Martha Voutas), Darnell Donegan Favaloro (Tony), Diane Donegan Spinato (Mike), Daniel “Danny” Donegan (Angela Lowe), David Donegan and the late Dorothy “Dottie” Donegan. Dennis was the youngest child of Milton Donegan Sr. and Eulalie “Lily” Hennessey Donegan Allemand and stepson of Clarence (Al) Allemand. His siblings were the late Milton Donegan, Eulalie “Lou” Donegan Trapani and Bernard Donegan. He was blessed with grandchildren Michael, Hershel, Katheryn “Katie”, Nicole, Anthony, Brian, Ross, Bailey, Lily, Colin, Molly and Madison. He was an honorary great-grandfather to Liam, Austin and Avery. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Dennis worked as a longshoreman at the Port of New Orleans for over 30 years. He was a member of ILA Local 3000 (formerly ILA Local 1418) and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. Famously, Dennis “Paw-Paw” hosted a long continuing tradition of Monday Night Bean Nights at the Donegan home, which was open to and enjoyed by family and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1908 Short St., Metairie, LA, on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, on Friday, January 2, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and on Saturday, January 3, from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
