David, a real estate broker and owner of Dynamic Real Estate, was an active participant in Louisiana Realtors Association and the Saints Board of Realtors. With Louisiana Realtors Association, David participated in the inaugural Louisiana Realtors’ leadership team. He served on numerous committees including Strategic Planning, Risk Management, Professional Standards, Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Friends of Louisiana Real Estate, among others.
During his membership in the Saints Board, David served in many capacities, including president in 2002 and again in 2009. He also was a past GSREIN director.
When David joined an organization or a club, he gave his all. As a dedicated St. Martin’s Episcopal School parent, David volunteered his time to multiple parent clubs throughout his daughter’s tenure at the school. David was an active member and served as president of both the St. Martin’s Guild of Fine Arts and Dad’s Club. He never missed an opportunity to cook hamburgers with his fellow Dad’s club members for Friday night football games and school wide events.
In college, at the University of New Orleans, David was an active member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity where he was elected president of his pledge class. At St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, he managed the admissions and concession sales for the summer theater productions.
David worked for many years at York Construction for Gene and Joan Rogers, whom he regarded fondly and considered his family.
If he wasn’t working or volunteering his time to the many organizations he served, David enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. David loved living in the greater New Orleans area and enjoyed the city’s food and festival scenes, never missing a Jazz Fest and eagerly awaiting the Carnival season all year long.
David was kind, compassionate, and giving. But these words do not capture the generosity David exhibited towards others. He regularly cooked dinners for his neighbors, lent a helping hand to those in need, and gave fully of himself to his family, friends, and community.
He was loved by all and will be missed greatly by his family and friends. The family wishes to thank all of those who participated in David’s care, especially Dr. David Pointer of Ochsner Hospital for his unfailing and steadfast care of David.
David is survived by his wife Abbey Mack; his daughter Emily Tastet; his step-mother Trudy Tastet; his nephew Jason Tastet (Ginger); and his nieces Amy Tastet Braud (Sheldon) and Niki Tastet Beckemeyer (Christopher). He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Tastet and Aurelie Adam Tastet; and his brother Russell Tastet.
A visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries located at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, Louisiana 70124 on Saturday July 22, 2023 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with a Memorial Service at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Second Harvest Foodbank of Greater New Orleans in David’s name.
