He is survived by brothers, John (Rose) and Mark Capretto, sisters, Carol Billon (Jim), Linda DePascual (Manuel) and Gina Hartdegen (Jason), brother-in-law, Glenn O’Shea (Marla) and sister-in-law, Gayle McMahon (Derek). As well as, a large number of nieces and nephews in New Orleans and California.
David attended St. Louis King of France and graduated from Jesuit High School in 1976. He entered trade school where he furthered his already self taught electrical and automotive skills.
David worked for Johnny’s Diesel, Fluor Daniel Electrical and Rogers Electric before leaving to California for the first time in 1983. He went to work for Sheldon Mechanical where he broadened his skills in the HVAC business. He went on to work as an independent until 1994 when he returned to New Orleans for a time before heading up to Pennsylvania to do electrical work for the school district.
He returned to New Orleans just before Katrina and stayed to become a first responder. In April of 2006 David returned to California with prospective wife, Lynne, to build a life there but his heart always remained in New Orleans.
David was a fantastic cook and avid sportsman. He hunted duck, deer and hog and fished, shrimped and crabbed at every opportunity. He would always eat the game he was blessed with. One of his best dishes was Duck Gumbo.
David was an active member of St. Euphrasia parish. Long time member of St. Frances faith group and worked as plant manager several years for his beloved Father Jim Gehl. He loved to travel and went on many international trips with fellow parish members as well as individual trips abroad with Lynne. He was always up for a new adventure.
David was a kind, quick witted man with a beautiful smile and he will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
Special thanks to the Servants of Mary for the respite care they provided for Lynne, Stephen Parrish for volunteering to drive the sisters out to Venetian Isles, everyone that followed David on Caringbridge, praying for and encouraging him and all the family and friends that came to help care for David.
