Conchetta “Jackie” Liberto Cox passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, age 96. Beloved wife of the late William B. Cox. Mother of Pamela Mary Cox Meyn (Donald). Sister of Dorothy L. Waguespack, Brenda L. Brooks and the late Salvadore J. Liberto, Manuella L. Blake and Rosalie L. Nickens. Daughter of the late Lillian Russo Liberto and Frederick Liberto. Grandmother of Donald F. Meyn, Jr., MD (Morgan) and Kristin M. Monsour (Marron). Great grandmother of William and Andrew Meyn and John Marron, Matthew and Hayes Monsour. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 11: am. Jackie (her real name was Conchetta), was born and raised in New Orleans, was married for almost 60 years, had one daughter, two grand children and five great grand children.
While her husband, William B. (Bill) Cox, was serving in the army during World War II, she worked for the government in the investigations bureau. Later, she began a career in music by teaching piano at Werlein’s in New Orleans and then taught from her home after her daughter was born.
She was very active in many social clubs over the years, serving in leadership roles in many such as President of the Pontchartrain Garden Club, Secretary of the North Shore New Comers Club, as well as a member with her husband in several clubs organized around his long time friends in the military.
She also enjoyed participating in carnival club activities as a member of the Crew of Pandora and served as Float Captain in the Crew of Eve in Mandeville, while her husband was a charter member of the Crew of Pegasus in New Orleans.
Her hobbies included crafts, such as decorating carnival costumes, oil painting, ceramics and sewing, and presented a weekly craft class at a local retirement center for a number of years.
She moved to Baton Rouge in 2007 after her daughter and husband relocated to Baton Rouge following Hurricane Katrina.
Jackie was very proud of her late husband’s military career. He fought with the Army infantry in the European Theater during World War II, then joined the Louisiana National Guard where he was recognized for his long time leadership with the Louisiana Distinguished Service Medal in 1970. He retired as a Brigadier General in 1976.
Jackie is survived by her daughter, Pamela Cox Meyn, her son-in-law Donald F. Meyn, grandchildren Dr. Donald F. Meyn, Jr., his wife, Morgan Portifield Meyn, their sons William and Andrew, as well as Kristin Meyn Monsour, her husband, J. Marion Monsour and their children Johnny, Matthew and Hayes AnnMarie.
