Clyde William Smith passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the age of 92. Preceded in death by his parents Ed Mae Legier & Meyer Smith, wife Shirley Hughes Smith, brother Meyer Smith and grandson “Beau” Bollinger. He is survived by his children: Susan Smith Francis, Claudia Smith Gifford (K.C.), Jennifer Smith Bollinger (Bill), & Clyde W. “Skip” Smith, Jr. (Valerie); grandchildren: Matthew Francis, Lauren Francis, Roth Walsh, K.C. Gifford, Jennifer O. Bollinger, Katherine Bollinger Lejeune, Christopher Smith, & Matthew Smith; great grandchildren: Morgan Walsh & Cage Walsh. He has gone to heaven to be with his loving wife Shirley. Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Lived in New Orleans most of his life until moving to Baton Rouge after Hurricane Katrina. World War II veteran who survived 4 crash landings as a navigator in the Army Air Force. Successful businessman who owned Clyde W. Smith Co. (office furniture & supplies) from 1947 to 1996. Clyde was a member of Metairie Country Club, Beau Chene Country Club, Serra Catholic Club, Babylon Parade Organization, New Orleans Cystic Fibrosis Board Member, and he attended Manresa Catholic Retreat. Very colorful character who never met a stranger. Fun loving, quick with a joke, warm, & charismatic. Devoted family man who loved being with his children, grandchildren, & great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am until service time. Interment will be private.
