Charles Salles Monteiro, 82, passed away July 2, 2014 in Panama City, Florida. He was born in New Orleans, LA Dec 25, 1931. He attended Jesuit High School, the University of Maryland, served his country as a US Marine and completed his education in 1959 with a business degree from LSU. He was a lifeloyal member of Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1967 he moved his family to Houma, LA where he worked as secretary/treasurer for John D. Monteiro contractors and later as Comptroller for Bayou Oaks Hospital. His passions were spending time with family, traveling and tending to his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Helen Farrington Monteiro, 7 loving children, Kay Cox (Keith), Laura Whaley (Bill), Nancy Monteiro, Charles F. Monteiro (Michelle), Joan Monteiro Vest, David Monteiro (Penny), Shelly Monteiro Minkin, 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, 3 sisters Gloria Rall, Lucia Taxdall, Anna Brans (Carl) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victoria Salles Monteiro and Charles R. Monteiro, stepmother Laura Brignac Monteiro and brother John D. Monteiro.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM.
