Charles Edgar Allen III passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019. Son of the late Dr. Charles Edgar Allen Jr. and Ruby Ruth Leche Allen, Mr. Allen was born in Baton Rouge, but grew up in New Orleans. He graduated from De La Salle High School and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Tulane University. While in college, Mr. Allen was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and served as the chapter’s treasurer.
After graduating from college, Mr. Allen fulfilled his obligation to his country and served in the United States Navy Reserve.
Upon entering the work world, Mr. Allen pursued a career in accounting. He became a Certified Public Accountant and practiced as a partner at Allen and Baxter, APAC, specializing in tax matters. In addition to being a CPA, Mr. Allen also earned the designation of Certified Financial Planner.
Mr. Allen was an active dad and served on the boards of his children’s schools. He was the board treasurer for St. George’s Episcopal School and Louise S. McGehee School.
Civically, Mr. Allen also volunteered and served as the board treasurer for Christwood Retirement Community.
During his life, Mr Allen enjoyed sailing and playing golf. He was a member of the Southern Yacht Club and Beau Chene Country Club. He also held memberships in many professional organizations relating to the fields of accounting, tax and finance. In addition, Mr. Allen was an avid Saints fan and incidentally was an original season ticket holder.
Mr. Allen was married to Sherrill Davies Allen and was the loving father of Charles Edgar Allen IV (Mary), Virginia Hebert (Charlene), Richard Bradley Allen and Robert Matthew Allen. He was also the brother of Arden Haag.
In addition, Mr. Allen was the adoring grandfather of Sydney Grace Allen, Celeste Jahncke Allen, Arden Allen Hebert, Katherine Virginia Hebert and Charles Alexander Hebert.
Mr. Allen will be deeply missed by his family, friends and business associates.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Graveside Service in All Saints Mausoleum at 12:00 p.m.
