Celia Alice Wainwright Darsey (Cece) passed away peacefully on October 8, 2022. Born on January 28, 1935, she lived 87 years. She is survived by her sister, Revill Wainwright Razzeto of Dallas, Texas, her brother-in-law, C. Tom (Carla) Clowe, of Waco, Texas, her two children, Paige Darsey (Michael P., Sr.) Lee and Revill Darsey (Warren) Bayer, her seven grandchildren: Dr. Courtney E. (“Eddie”) Lane (Erin Ellis), Catherine Olivia Lane, Wendy Lee (James Berry Stapler), Michael P. Lee, Jr., John Paul Bayer, Brooks Revill Bayer and Robert Warren Bayer, and her five great grandchildren: William E. Stapler, Britton E. Stapler, Braedyn M. Lee, Brooklynn Ellis and Carly Wiggins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Wainwright Clowe and her parents; Revill W. Wainwright and Lester A. Wainwright.
She was born in San Antonio, Texas and raised in Houston, Texas. Celia graduated from Lamar High School and The University of Texas, Austin. She had a lifelong love for Texas and Texas strength. Celia was married to W. G. Darsey, III for 21 years. They settled in Lafayette, Louisiana where she loved to entertain, play tennis and golf at Oakbourne Country Club, play bridge, and sail and fish at Cypremort Point. She worked for many years as a secretary at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette and in insurance and the oil business. She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, had her CPS certification and was a Notary Public. In 1991, Celia moved to Mandeville to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. While in Mandeville, she volunteered for many organizations and began competing in Senior Olympics. Celia won many awards for running, swimming and table tennis, and competed at the regional and national levels. She was afflicted with dementia.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers for their loving care especially by the Christwood Longleaf staff, Hospice of Notre Dame, and Dr. Thomas Krefft.
She will be greatly missed.
