Betty Lee Wan, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother departed this life on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 for her heavenly home after a short but hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Betty was born on April 23, 1949 in New Orleans. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from St. Mary Dominican College in New Orleans and interned at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Her work as a Dietician brought her first to the Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island, then to Houston Methodist Hospital in Texas and finally home to New Orleans at both Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital and Memorial Baptist Hospital. She retired from Dietetics and worked at the family business, Q. Lee Cleaners, until her official retirement in 2018.
Anyone that knew Betty knew her love for baking, cooking, sewing, gardening, and singing. She was known amongst her friends and family for her signature chiffon cake and many other delicious baked goods. She was a devoted member of Chinese Presbyterian Church and was a committed and faithful alto singer in the choir since her teenage years. In more recent years, she enjoyed spending time with her five grandchildren, crocheting amigurumi animals, playing Mahjong and enjoying retirement with the love of her life, Theo.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Theobald Wan; daughter, Tiffany Huang (Wei-Ting); son, Matthew Wan (Van); sisters, Wanda Lee, Jenny Marcum (Eddy), and Rose Lee; brother, Quong Lee, Jr. (Kamy); grandchildren, Isabella, Abigail and Ethan Huang, and Gavin and Kenzie Wan; nieces, Ashley Chin, Samantha and Taylor Lee; and nephews, Timothy and Jonathan Chin and Martin Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Quong Lee, Sr. and Judy Wong Lee; and sister, Dixie Lee Chin (Yeu Jwo).
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Lake Lawn Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, 70124. Visitation begins at 10 am and the service begins at 1 pm.
