Elizabeth Anne Lapeyre Gordon, known to all as “Betty Anne”, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018 in her home in New Orleans surrounded by her family. Betty Anne was a life-long resident of New Orleans and an enthusiastic Who Dat fan.
Betty Anne attended The Academy of Sacred Heart from start to finish and enrolled to attend Marymount College, but fate soon stepped in. The summer before she was to leave for college, Betty Anne met Jack Gordon (the love of her life) while sailing in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Betty Anne attended Marymount for three months, but after a carriage ride around Central Park and a proposal from Jack, Betty Anne headed back to New Orleans to begin her career as a loving wife and mother, and devoted friend.
Betty Anne and Jack kept a summer home in Bay St. Louis for over 25 years. Betty Anne spent many summers in the Bay moonlighting as a water ski instructor to her children and their friends, and a Sunfish race committee member-extraordinaire.
Betty Anne was a member of the Junior League of New Orleans, The Orleans Club, and the New Orleans Lawn and Tennis Club. But, no doubt, Betty Anne’s favorite membership was with a group of long-time friends known as “The Bridgettes”.
Betty Anne is survived by her daughter Betsy, her son John, her niece and nephew Mary Elizabeth and H. J. Platt, and their children Ellie and Jordan, her brother Beau Lapeyre, numerous cousins and in-numerous friends -- and, of course, her four-legged child Prince Jiggy. She is predeceased in death by her precious Jack, her beloved parents Elizabeth and Fernand Lapeyre, and her cherished aunt and uncle Eleanore and Jacques Livaudais.
Betty Anne's family would like to thank Dr. Frank Wilklow, Pearl Jones, and Robert Javers for their kindness, love, and support.
In life, Betty Anne greeted everyone with her infamous “hello dahlin’." Relatives and friends are invited to blow a kiss and say "good-bye dahlin' Betty Anne" at the Funeral Mass held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in memory of Betty Anne to Volunteers of America, Adoption Program, 320 Hammond Hwy., Ste. 300, Metairie, Louisiana, 70005 and/or Labs4rescue Inc., P.O. Box 955, Killingworth, CT, 06419, two organizations that brought so much joy to Betty Anne and Jack.
