Bernard Michael Florane, a lifelong resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, died peacefully at home on May 4, 2024, at the age of 59. Bernard was a loving person with a huge heart and an unforgettably infectious laugh that touched the lives of many people. His passing leaves an enduring mark on the hearts of those who loved him.
He was born on May 3, 1965 to the late Bernard Florane Jr. and the late Patricia Bulmer Florane. He graduated from Brother Martin High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans. He went on to a successful career in property management and worked at the Place St. Charles building for the past 15 years. Bernard had a huge personality, was the life of the party, and drew everyone around him to his magnetic and charismatic energy. He never met a stranger, which was why it was so easy for him to make friends. He was known to throw great parties, entertaining and cooking for others at his home.
Bernard enjoyed all things New Orleans culture. He was an active participant in various Mardi Gras organizations and marching clubs for many years. And as any true New Orleanian would, he loved to share in experiencing new dining venues and various cuisines with family and friends.
Bernard is survived by his sisters, Susan Holland (Denis), Elizabeth Thomas (John), and Peggy Bagur; nieces, Michelle Marshall (Jeremy) and Lindsay Bagur; nephew, Kenneth Raymond, Jr. (Tracey); great nephews Layton Marshall and Ryan Raymond; great niece Chloe Marshall; his three beloved Shih-Tzus, Collin, Bailey, and Collette; and many other relatives and friends he held dear.
While we mourn his absence here, we celebrate his reunion with his parents, who he loved dearly, as well as the many other relatives that went before him.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. Rest in peace.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 11 AM. Visitation will begin at 9 AM. After the chapel service, Bernard will be laid to rest in All Saints Mausoleum.
