Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Judy D. Picone; his sister, Mary Kulp; sister-in-law, Diana Deroche; brother-in-law, Ray Dufrene (Pam); and numerous relatives, friends, nieces, nephews, co-workers, and band members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Gertie Picone, and brothers-in-law, Arthur Kulp and Roland “Cotton” Deroche.
Tony was born in New Orleans on February 7, 1941, and was a graduate of Behrmann High School. In 1964, he enlisted with the U. S. Army, where he was a fuel operator and was stationed in France. He attained the rank of sergeant, and was awarded the good conduct medal, national defense service medal, and the rifle marksman medal. He also attended the Military School of Petroleum Analysis in Fort Lee, Virginia, earning him an associate’s degree.
Tony’s career as a laboratory technician began in 1966 with Witco Chemical Company in Gretna, where he was affectionately known as “Fox” by his colleagues. He retired from Witco in 1999.
Tony was a parishioner of St. Matthew the Apostle Church. He enjoyed bowling, jogging, and playing golf. He loved playing the electric guitar, and he started the band “Mark Seven”; they performed at dances and local venues.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 11:00AM. The visitation will begin at 9:00AM. The interment will follow the Mass at All Saints Mausoleum (in Metairie Cemetery).
