Anthony George Clesi, age 84, passed away at his home in Metairie, Louisiana, on Saturday, December 18, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline Delaney Clesi; loving father of Stephen Clesi, Gina Clesi Elliott (Patrick), Lisa Clesi Skoien (Richard), and the late Paula Clesi Funck; grandfather of Brandon Funck (Brittnay Vitrano), Ashleigh Skoien Guillot (Nicholas), and Chad Skoien. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Violet Clesi; sister, June Clesi; aunts, Mary Clesi and Lena Clesi Catalanello; cousin, Catherine Clesi Gaudet; brother-in-law, Michael Delaney; and sisters-in-law, Rosemary Resendez (Henry), Carol Fandal (Dennis), Dorothy Delaney, and Elaine Delaney.
Anthony was born and raised in New Orleans, and was a veteran of the United States Navy. His successful career in retail spanned 54 years… of which 11 years was with A1 Appliance, 17 years with Campo Appliance, and 26 years with Maison Blanche.
Anthony loved baseball, and was an avid Houston Astros fan. This man has played baseball and hardcover softball since he was 12 years old. In his prime, he played every night of the week with the exception of Sunday, which was three games. He played for Maison Blanche, with the CAA (Commercial Athletic Association) for 26 years. He played for City Park for 15 years sponsored by Fatso’s Bar. Tony also played in a league called “Sleepy Breaux” which was the top independent softball league of “Who’s Who” for 20 years. He also played with a team called “Fun & Frolic”. For 29 years, he played with this team and eight of those years has been without missing a game. They played on Sundays and had a variety of functions throughout the year.
The Clesi family extends their appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Lakeside Hospice for the care and comfort they provided to Anthony.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 1:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11:00AM. The interment will follow the Mass in All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
