He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Phyllis Treigle and Ed Blache, Patricia McWhorter and Peter Broussard, David and Lisa McWhorter, and Steven and Renee McWhorter; and his great-nieces, Erin Sheets, Emily Treigle, Allyson McWhorter, Brindley McWhorter, Rebecca McWhorter Ruegge, Elizabeth McWhorter Guillory, Emily McWhorter, and Olivia Broussard.
Andrew was born in New Orleans on January 30, 1932. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a longtime member (over 60 years) of Old Metairie Protestant Church.
In the 1950’s, Andrew played the trumpet throughout the French Quarter, and led several of the big bands during that era. He and his wife enjoyed boating, and spending time at their camp in Mississippi. In his later years, he picked up the trumpet again, and enjoyed playing for the residents at the Southeast Louisiana Veteran’s Home.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and give special thanks to the staff of the Southeast Louisiana Veteran’s Home in Reserve, for the care and compassion they gave to Andrew.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 10:00AM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:00AM. The interment will follow the chapel service at Cypress Grove Cemetery.
