Alene, affectionately known as Mrs. A, was born on October 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee. She was adopted at the age of 6, by her loving parents, Irene and Jabus Hightower, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she grew up riding her beloved Tennessee Walker and playing the piano for her church.
Alene was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Peake.
She will be missed dearly by her three children, Dean Stipp, Jr. (Annie), Debbie Brunner and Dana Jeandron (Ron). Her two grandchildren Brek Pitcher and Kirsty Pitcher and her great granddaughter, Amelia, who could do no wrong.
Alene owned the Evangeline Lounge, in Mid City, for over 40 years. It is there that her love for the NOPD (3rd District) developed and she became a volunteer. She cooked hot meals for them every holiday, especially during Mardi Gras and made sure they had a Christmas party every year. If an officer was injured on duty, Mrs A was quick to put together a fundraiser and do what she could to help; whether they were in her district or not.
She loved to make people laugh and never took anything seriously. Love and laughter was always the center point of her life and taking care of everyone except herself was her specialty. Besides spending time with her family, she loved decorating king cakes, for her longtime friend, Gil Copeland Jr., at Butter Krisp Diner.
She had an independent spirit, was loyal to a fault, never listened to advice but was always available to give you hers. She had an amazing sense of humor and touched the hearts of everyone she met. To know her was to love her! We were blessed to have such an amazing Mother who filled our lives with love and laughter.
