Albert Martin Stall, 85, born on November 28, 1931 in Cairo, Illinois, died on October 22, 2017 in New Orleans. Born to Gertrude E. Stall and Albert H. Stall, Albert was the beloved husband of Susan Ellender Stall for 63 years and loving father of Diane S. Irvin (John), Kristin I. Stall, Albert M. Stall, Jr. (Nicole) and Andrew E. Stall (Susu). He is survived by his sisters Mary Helen S. Bryant and Frances S. Smith (Rodney). Albert will be dearly missed by his 10 grandchildren; Alison I. Wols, John G. Irvin, Jr., Lindsay L. Stall, Andrew E. Stall, Jr., Eugenie E. Stall, Thomas M. Stall, Albert M. Stall, III, Greta M. Stall, Campbell S. Robinson and Egan E. Robinson, and 2 great grandchildren; Lucy E. Wols and Ian J. Wols. Albert Stall graduated from Jesuit High School, attended Louisiana State University and earned his master’s degree in Geology from the University of Oklahoma. He served his country as 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. A devout Catholic, scratch golfer and avid Saints and LSU Tigers’ fan, Albert was an independent oil operator, but, he is best known for his accomplishments in thoroughbred horse racing. He owned, bred and raced horses all his life. Mr. Stall was a prominent figure of the Louisiana State Racing Commission for 28 years, serving as Chairman for 9 years. Among his many accomplishments on the Commission, he is attributed with having introduced the simulcast of major races from across the country, Sunday racing and exotic wagering in the state. Albert was also on the International Racing Commission, where he served one term as President. He’s a member of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association Hall of Fame and the Fair Grounds Race Course Hall of Fame. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 26 in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans.
