Albert Levert Lamar, the son of Lamartine and Stephanie Levert Lamar, died on October 18, 2015. He was born in New Orleans, was a K-12 graduate of Metairie Park Country Day School, and an honors graduate of Princeton University. After two years service in the Navy, he began his career in the advertising business, eventually owning and operating Lamar Outdoor Advertising Company in Jackson, Mississippi. He later expanded his operations to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. When the fledgling cable television business presented an opportunity in 1978, Lamar purchased the existing company in Hancock County as well as the company in Apalachicola, Florida, adding other markets in Georgia and Mississippi. He sold his advertising interests to Lamar Outdoor Advertising Company in Baton Rouge, the family business which had been started by his grandfather in Pensacola, Florida, and retired to a joyful life of sailing, flyfishing, golf, travel, and summers on his beloved Maine coast. While living in Jackson, Mississippi for thirty years, he served in many civic capacities. He was a board member of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, chairman of the Advisory Board of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at Ole Miss, Commodore of the Jackson Yacht Club, and a member of the National Symphony Orchestra Board appointed by Governor Ray Mabus. He returned to New Orleans in 1992 after his retirement and was a member of the Boston Club, the Recess Club, the Rex organization, and the New Orleans Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Eugenia Krutz Lamar and by four children, Gaby Lamar Brown of Covington, Louisiana, Albert Lamar, Jr. (Melanie) of Merrimac, Massachusetts, Mart Lamar (Laura) of Jackson, Mississippi, and Madeleine Lamar Morris (Mark) of Madison, Mississippi, and three stepchildren, Kip Collum (Becky) of Madison, Mississippi, Beth Collum Ozmun (David Herron) of Austin, Texas, and Michael Collum of Los Angeles, California. He has fourteen grandchildren, Charlotte, Robby, and Peter Brown; Gemma, Gwendolyn, Lila, and Albert Lamar; Ashley, Willem, Samuel, and Luke Lamar; and Andrew and Matthew Kajdan, and Stephanie Morris. He has four stepgrandchildren, Delaney and Kendall Ozmun; and Alex and Matthew Collum. He has four great grandchildren, Eli LaBauve, Oliver Kajdan, Ava Lenoir Lamar, and Remy Louise Welch. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 12:00 noon.
