Groton- William E. Sarsfield , 88, entered into his journey with the Lord on Friday, April 16,2010. He was born in New Bedford, Mass August 23, 1921 the son of the late Mary and David Sarsfield. After moving to Canaan Vermont where his family operated a farm, he relocated and settled in Groton, CT, where he married his beloved wife of 54 years, Nettie (Faluotico) Sarsfield.
Bill was employed by the Electric Boat Company from 1939-1943 where he held the position of Power Plant Supervisor. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1943 -1963 and was stationed in Groton, CT, Newport, RI, and Pearl Harbor, HI. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer.
Following his 20 year Naval career, he was employed by the Arwood Corporation of Groton as a Process Engineer retiring after 17 years of service.
Bill was member of the Masonic community, Union Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years and was a member of the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve. Mr. Sarsfield served as President of the City of Groton Little League, President of The Sacred Heart School Guild and President of the International Management Council of S.E. Connecticut. Bill was also instrumental in the renovation project at Sacred Heart Church serving as President of the Administrative Committee.
In his pastime Bill enjoyed watch repair, playing cribbage, camping, and spending time with family and friends. He also took great pleasure in researching his Irish heritage and following the Boston Red Sox. After retirement Bill and his wife travelled the United States and abroad. He will always be remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand along with a laugh and a smile.
Bill is survived by his wife, Nettie; two daughters: Mary Sarsfield of Groton, Catherine Sarsfield Rawdin and her husband Bruce of Florida; son Mark Sarsfield and his wife Jean of Gales Ferry, and a cherished grandson Spencer William Rawdin. He is predeceased by five sisters and a brother.

A Mass of the resurrection will be Wednesday April 21, 2010, 11am at Sacred Heart Church, 56 Sacred Heart Drive, Groton followed by interment with military honors at Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton.
The family requests that contributions be made in Bills’ memory to Sacred Heart Parish in Groton.
