Shirley was a teacher, both professionally and at home. She worked in the Waterford school system until she started her family. She married Donald Perkins on August 30, 1940. She moved from Waterford to East lyme, where her loves consisted of family, animals, and gardening. Every gardening and animal book imagined, she owned. Shirley knew so many animal calls, specifically for various types of birds. She also nurtured animals of all kinds: squirrels, pigeons, raccoons, guinea pigs, cats, dogs, parrots, and parakeets just to name a few. Her gardens were always looking full and well pruned; consisting also of multiple bird houses. Her home, always clean, was also animal-themed and full of animal decor. She spent most of her life living next door to her son, daughter in-law, and grand children. She will truly be missed by her family.
