Sandra was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on October 9, 1945 and grew up in New Bedford and Acushnet Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Francis Bernard and Eleanor (Martin) Bernard. As a young child Sandra attended school at the Saint Francis Church within walking distance of her home in New Bedford where she was taught by French speaking nuns. Her family later moved to Acushnet and she graduated from New Bedford high School in 1963.
She met her husband, Joe Perry, in 1969 and they were married in Exeter, New Hampshire in 1973. Following their marriage they moved to Waterford, Connecticut where they raised their family.
Sandra worked in the Waterford School system for many years first as a teacher's aide and later as a secretary at Clark Lane Middle School and at the Waterford High School. She retired in 2002 as secretary to the Principal of Waterford High School. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and especially spending time with her family. Sandra and her husband enjoyed traveling after they retired including visits to many national parks and numerous Caribbean cruises.
In addition to her husband, Joe, she is survived by her sons, Keith Perry of Waterford and Michael Perry of Norwich and by her daughter Debra Perry of Medford, Massachusetts, her sister Sharon Sylvia, brother Brian Bernard, four grand children and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers David Bernard and Richard Bernard.
Due to the Covid pandemic, a private service will be held at a later date for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Sandra’s name may be to the Alzheimer's Association or Alzheimer's Disease Research.
