He was born on January 10, 1945, in New London, the son of Frank and Ruth DeCosta.
He leaves behind his wife and best friend Debbie of 17 years. He also leaves behind his children Richard DeCosta and his wife Annette, of Gales Ferry; Doreen DeCosta of Groton; Kimberly Genest and her husband Joe of Baltic; stepsons Chris Nemergut and his wife Sarah of Las Vegas and Jonathan Nemergut and his wife Samantha of Daytona, FL; his brother Frank and his wife Ruth of Groton and a sister-in-law Linda Sears of N. Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren Cameron, Kyle, Dylan, Jenna, Julia, Richard, Tyler, Brianna and Olivia and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Ed and Fred.
Prior to his retirement in 2008 from Silgan Plastics of Deep River, he was employed with Uarco of Deep River for 26 years.
In his earlier years he enjoyed playing horseshoes, bowling, camping with his family, being a volunteer fireman and square dancing. He was considered a square nut. He was a caring man and anyone that knew him knew that if he could help you in any way, he would. He taught us all to live one day at a time.
