Mike was born in Tuttlingen, Germany, the son of Maria Kosztala-Wozniak and Fedor Kosztala. The third eldest of eight children, he immigrated to Connecticut from Germany with his parents and four other siblings.
Mike was mechanically inclined and had a passion for restoring cars, mostly foreign ones such as Porsche’s and Ferrari’s.
He graduated from New London High School in 1968 and served in the Marines from 1968-1971 with full honors. He was an altar boy and a long-time member of the Saints Peter & Paul Polish Catholic Church in New London, Connecticut.
He is survived by his mother, Maria Wozniak of Sun City, AZ, four brothers: Jan Kosztala of Sun City, AZ, Joseph Kosztala (Eileen) of Mystic, CT, Stephan Kosztala (Connie) of Cincinnati, OH, Edward (Bethany) Kosztala of North Stonington, CT; three sisters: Kristina Cutler (William) of Tavares, FL, Stephanie Zeitler of Sun City, AZ, and Jacqueline Bailey, of Orlando, FL; two step sisters: Kristina (Nathaniel) Fox of Rockport, MA and Bogumila Wozniak (Douglas) of Bristol, CT. He also had many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his father, Fedor Kosztala.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am to pay final respects at Fulton Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London, Connecticut.
A private burial service with a military honor’s will follow.
