New London- After succumbing to illness, Mr. John W. Kelly, Sr., 73, of Willetts Ave., died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and loved ones. Mr. Kelly was born on January 19, 1936 in Mt. Olive, NC the son of John and Ruth Brewington Kelly. He married Miriam A. Gibson on July 7, 1962 in New London. He was employed at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for 49 years, where he was well known and respected. He was driven by the passion of dedication, and retired in 2008 as a Lab Supervisor. Although, work was what he appeared to enjoy most, he always made time for family and friends. The ladies and many staff members at Lawrence & Memorial will forever remember his charm and jokes through the years. As Uncle John and Big Dad he was an extented father and role model to many, his wonderful spirit will last on. Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife Miriam, his three sons Darren Bright- wife Isabel of Colchester, John W. Kelly Jr.-wife Susan of Niantic and Royce H. Kelly- wife Yvette of New London, his four daughters Vanessa Marshall , Gayle Huff, Rosalind Morgan all of New London and Pearl Kelly- husband Jaykuan of Glastonbury, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Godson Noah. He is also survived by sisters Onnie Holland - husband John D. of Virginia Beach, Va, Carol Kelly-Hunter of Oakdale and two brothers Karl D. Kelly-wife Susan of New London, and Charles E. Kelly-wife Rebecca of New Haven. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 11:00am in Shiloh Baptist Church in New London. Interment will follow in Jordan Cemetery in Waterford. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 from 5:00 until 8:00pm in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London, CT 06320.
