A longtime resident of Groton City, Hazel was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great-grandmother. Hazel was born on September 30, 1914 in New London. She married her husband, Harold, on May 5, 1939. He was her first and only true love. They enjoyed going to Grange meetings and square dancing.
Hazel graduated from Chapman Technical High School in 1931. She was very skilled in domestics, was a remarkable seamstress and enjoyed cooking for her family. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Groton Grange and Lodge of the Rebekahs.
Her pride and were her sons, Richard and Robert. She recently had become a great-grandmother to Marc, Jr.
Hazel was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and loved Frank Sinatra, Ronald Regan and Dwight D. Eisenhower. She liked to watch the news and she enjoyed doing puzzles with her friends at Mystic Rehab.
She leaves behind her sons Richard (Marilyn) of North Stonington, Robert (Carolyn) of Groton, granddaughter Melissa (Marc) Chubbuck of Ledyard, grandson Michael (Crystal) George of Groton and Mia (Shawn) Couture of Thompson, great-grandsons, Marc Jr. Anthony George, Giovanni Couture and great-granddaughter, Lilly George.
Hazel was one of the most kind, most patient women in this world. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 6:30pm with a calling hour from 5:00 to 6:30 prior to the service on Wednesday in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London, CT 06320.
