Waterford — George Lambert passed away July 31, 2023, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in New London Aug. 21, 1947, he was raised in Waterford by Marjorie and Cecil Lambert, graduating from Waterford High School in 1965. He would later travel the world in the army and as a freight airline pilot but found no place he liked better than Waterford and living close to his family. After high school, he attended Bridgeport University before joining the army. He flew helicopters in the 101st Airborne in Vietnam, where he was highly decorated for his skill and bravery.
Upon returning from the war, he married his high school sweetheart Cathy Antley, and they had three children, Jennifer, Michael and Gillian, whom he cultivated to be high-spirited. He continued to pursue a career as a pilot, flying for local airlines such as Action Air, Pilgrim Airlines and Business Express out of Groton before ultimately working for UPS, flying around the world and making friends everywhere he went. When computers came out in the early 80s, he jumped on board and spent hours learning to program and play games. He bought an ipod before his kids knew what they were. He was passionate about music and always wanted you to hear whatever new “tune” he found.
He will be remembered for his stories, some unbelievable and completely true- others part of his mischievous sense of humor. He will be remembered for his love of children, which started with helping with his newborn baby sister to each of his children to his six adored, gushed-about grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cathy; children, Jennifer Lambert (Carl D’Amato), Michael Lambert (Melissa Lambert), and Gillian Avin (Jason Avin); grandchildren, Bean, Awesomeman, Nick-Knack, Honey, Dahlia-locks, and Ezra (aka Sara, Logan, Nick, Sophia, Dahlia and Ezra); and his sisters, Judy Hostetler (Bruce) and Tina Tyrseck (Derek); and sister-in-law Ann Antley. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Charles Antley.
He will be loved and missed. A celebration of life will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family would enjoy you signing the guest book and sharing a story.
