He was born on July 26, 1918, in China, the son of Tin Chong Kee and Yuk Kiu Wong. He came to the United States in 1926 and settled in Miami, FL, later moving to Boston, MA during the Great Depression. In 1938, he graduated from high school, and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for one year on a scholarship. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University in 1946. World War II interrupted his college education, when he joined the Army and earned the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering and an Honorable Discharge from the Army, he was employed as a staff engineer at Stone & Webster Inc., Boston, MA, and then Wescott & Mapes Inc., in New Haven CT.
In 1955 he joined the Electric Boat Company (now the General Dynamics/Electric Boat Division) as a design engineer on the SSN Skate (578) Program, the country’s third nuclear powered submarine. His career at EB spanned the areas of technical design, program management, financial management and business development. He retired in 1983 after 28 years of service.
He was active in Waterford town finances, initially serving as a member of the RTM and the Board of Finance. Subsequently, as the chairman of the Board of Finance, he was a vocal advocate of conservative fiscal management. He reduced the town debt in the 1980s and left the town finances on sound footing for many years. He continued to provide fiscal advice to the Waterford town leadership well into his 80s.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Kee; his daughter, Liane Kee Eng and her husband, Stephen Eng of Vienna, VA; his brother, Harry Kee of Branchburg, NJ; his sister, Yuet Sui Chin of Brookline, MA; and his grandchildren Jennifer and Michael Eng, both of Vienna, VA.
