Waterford- George C. “Sonny” Clark Sr. of Waterford passed away peacefully on April 6, 2018 at home. He was the loving husband for 69 years to Laura K. “Bootsie” (Lemasa) Clark. They were married on January 15th, 1949. He was born on September 12th, 1929 to the late George and Florence Burdick Clark in New London.
He attended Chapmen Tech. Then he joined the army and served with the H Troop 12th Cavalry Regiment in Japan. After being discharged he went to work for the Nutmeg Beverage Co. Then he moved on to the New London Mills Co. for 18 ½ years until they closed. He finally retired from Laborers Local 547 of Groton.
George bowled for 60 years starting down the Simpson lanes in New London then moved on to the Family Bowl of Waterford in various leagues. He was a member of the Moose Club of New London for many years. Later in life he took up golfing and became a member of the Shennecossett Golf Club. The Plainfield Dog Track was also a favorite night out to him and Bootsie for many years. When it closed the casinos became their enjoyment. He was always keeping busy doing a project around his home and was an avid sports fan. The Red Sox and Patriots were his teams. George was always a proud member of the old Fort Gang.
Besides his wife Bootsie, he is survived by his 7 children. George Jr. of Canterbury, Kathleen of New London, Robert (Nancy Herrick) of Stonington, Carlton (Karen) of Ledyard, Paula (Steve) Montanari of New London, Nancy Parker of Waterford and Stacy of Waterford. Also 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A brother Charles (Sonja) of Groton also survives. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother Robert.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jane Kanowitz for her care and kindness during his illness. We also want to thank the nurses from Hospice for the compassion and care they provided.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 11:00am in Jordan Cemetery, Waterford. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, New London is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
