He was born on November 12, 1950, in New London, the son of Frederick A. Johnson, Sr., and Helen Faulkner Johnson. He graduated from Norwich Tech. in 1968 and was a member of the National Honor Society. He was an avid Yankee fan. In the 1970's along with his father and brother owned the family business, Johnson's Moving and Delivery. Butch was an active advocate for veterans and anyone who needed help. He volunteered for many years placing flags on veteran's graves in cemeteries in New London. He will be greatly missed by many.
He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. In 1971 he was injured in Vietnam and received two Purple Hearts, and other medals. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV, RAFA, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Moose Lodge.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife Juanita Johnson; his son Jared Johnson of New London; his daughters Renee Smith and her husband Bob of Ledyard and Janet Plikus of New London; his brother Albert Johnson and his wife Janice of Niantic; his granddaughters Nicole and her husband Brandon, Jaclyn and her partner Brian, and Rebekah, his great granddaughter Isabel and his two nephews Jeffery and Timothy Johnson.
Calling hours will be held on Friday December 27th from 4-7pm at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30am at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to DAV, or the Make A Wish Foundation.
