Donald Dowd, 69, of Oakdale, CT and formerly of Newport, RI, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2021, surrounded by the love of his devoted family. Don was the son of John and Hazel (Martin) Dowd. He is predeceased in death by his loving wife, Robin (Powell) Dowd and his cherished grandson, Brody Bibeau. Don is survived by his son, Michael Dowd & wife Melissa, of Oakdale CT, daughter Stephanie Bibeau & husband Scott, of Griswold CT. In addition, he is survived by his older brother, John Dowd and wife Maureen of North Scituate, MA and younger brother, Rick Dowd and wife, Becky of Marshfield, MA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Don dedicated his life to raising his family and he was truly loved by all. His greatest joy was spending time with family and his adoring grandchildren. He worked at Electric Boat, building nuclear submarines first in Quonset, RI, where he started as a pipefitter and transferring to Groton, CT, holding several positions and eventually becoming a Strategic Weapons Planner. Don retired from Electric Boat after a 41 year career, spending his retired years with family. There weren't many hats that Don didn't wear. From volunteering with New London Babe Ruth, to having a second "fun" job at the mall, managing coffee shops and becoming a security guard, he sure loved to stay busy. Don was able to fix and build just about anything, truly a man of many talents. His personality lit up a room, and his wit and sense of humor were enjoyed by many!
Don’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and other health care providers who have helped care for him over the past several years.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, December 5th, from 1pm-4pm at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, located at 181 Ocean Avenue, New London, CT 06320.
