Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11:00 am at Our Savior’s Church-New Iberia campus for Dr. Virgil Jackson Bryant, Jr., age 86. Pastor Don Norman will officiate.
Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum with Military Honors conducted by the Acadiana Veteran’s Honor Guard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Friday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Evangeline Funeral Home. The funeral home will reopen on Saturday at 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
Dr. Bryant, “Doc” was born on October 4, 1936 to the late Reverend Virgil Jackson Bryant, Sr. and Iva Mae Johnson Bryant in Kayford, West Virginia. He made his sacred journey to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 1, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
As a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp, he served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant.
“Doc” lived a servant’s life that was filled with providing healthcare to numerous people throughout the Acadiana area, serving as Owner and Operator of Bryant Chiropractic Clinic for 49 years. He received his Doctorate in Chiropractic (DC) from Bebout Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, Indiana and was one of seventeen Chiropractors in his family along with his five brothers. He referred to his clinic with pride as “Oasis for Health Care” because of the broad spectrum of natural methods and holistic services offered.
He was an elected member of the Republican State Central Committee, representing District 49 for the State of Louisiana. He received the Decade of Service Award from National Spinal Research, served as instructor for The Vertebral Subluxation Institute TEAM, and was a member of International Governors of Chiropractic and served as President of the South Central Louisiana Chiropractic Society.
Doc often said, “I offer thanks to God every day for guiding my hands and creating health in the lives of my patients.”
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, repairing electronics, restoring antique automobiles, and attending family events with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Vitus Picard Bryant; his children, Michael A. Bryant (Connie); Bert J. Bryant (Pam); Greg A. Bryant (Cathy); Chance P. Tenney (Chere’); seventeen grandchildren, Michael Bryant, Jr., Kody Bryant, Heather Bryant, Jeremy Guidry, Virgil Bryant, III, Nichole Turner, Natasha Heffernan, Nickolas Barry, Brooke Bryant, Brennon Bryant, Brittany Scott, Taylor Primeaux, Kaitlyn Saldana, Zack Bryant, Michael Hollier, Bree Galewski and Alise Thibodaux; twenty six great grandchildren and one sister, Phyllis Bryant Wells.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Shannon M. Bryant; five brothers, Dr. Harold Bryant, Dr. John Bryant, Dr. Daniel Bryant, Dr. Linwood Bryant and Dr. James Bryant and two sisters, Ida Phipps and Goldie Seagraves.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Michael A. Bryant, Greg A. Bryant, Chance P. Tenney, Nicholas Barry, Virgil J. Bryant, III and Brennan Bryant.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Bryant, Jr., Bert Bryant, Zack Bryant, Jeremy Guidry, Kody Bryant and Michael Hollier.
